Then the LORD said to
Cain, "Where is your brother Abel?" "I don't know," he
replied. "Am I my brother's keeper? “Genesis 4:9
We have seen some
interesting questions which God and others asked in the Bible , Satan asked the
first question in the Bible in Genesis 3:1 He asked Eve if God really said what
she thought he said. His purpose then was to cast doubt on God and his Word.
He's still doing that today. The second question is in Genesis 3:9 where God
called to Adam asking where he was. God's purpose was to seek man and have
fellowship with him. He's still seeking and calling for us today. The third
question is found in Genesis 4:9 where a man asks God about our relationship to
each other: Cain asked, "Am I my brother's keeper?" We still ask that
question even today .This was Cain’s question in response to God’s question of
where Abel was. Beyond the fact that Cain had just murdered his brother.
Many times , I ignore
or neglect my fellow believer or others if I don't like and my conscience
condemn me many times but I used to convince my self with this question “Am I
brother's keeper ?”.Today , most of the believers are like me , they least
bother about the others . Cain was expressing the feeling we all have when we
do not want to care about or look after other people. Are we our brother’s
keeper?, Jesus said Yes . 1 John 3:11-24 “ For
this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another.
Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And
why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother’s were
righteous. Do not be surprised, my brothers and sisters, if the world hates
you. We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each
other. Anyone who does not love remains in death. Anyone who hates a brother or
sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing
in him.
As Jesus commanded us
, we have to love one another and care one another . As Jesus said in Luke
10:36, those who are in need of love and care, they are our brothers and
sisters and neighbors. As a believers we have to love and care for them .John 13: 34 A new commandment I give to you, that
you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By
this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” If you want to become a true disciple of
Jesus then you must show love to others as Jesus showed upon you .
Today , If Jesus ask
us the same question “Where is your brother ?” , what is our response !
GOD BLESS YOU
