Today’s meditation is taken from Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”
What does “Hunger and Thirst” means?
Both these words referring to physical needs, hunger mean to have a strong desire or craving for food and thirst means a feeling of needing or wanting to drink something. Our physical life depends on food and water. Here Jesus comparing the physical life to spiritual life . Our spiritual life depends on righteousness.
How to develop hunger for righteousness? Why?
As a believers, its very important to have hunger and thirst for righteousness. Why? because what is true of the physical is also true of the spiritual. God has made you with a spirit, soul, and body that get thirsty, if you fail to satisfy that thirst, your spirit, soul, and body become dehydrated. Our physical life depends on food and water. Our spiritual life depends on righteousness. You can’t live physically without food and water, and you’ll never live spiritually without righteousness. Righteousness is defined as conformity to God's Law, both in our hearts and in our deeds, inside and outside. Righteousness comes only by faith in Christ. Righteousness is His character, we have to imitate and follow his character. Righteousness comes by having strong desire to mediate word of God and having fellowship with other believers. James explained very clearly on how to produce righteousness in our life, James 1:19-21 “ My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.”
What does it mean by filled?
Here comes the blessing “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be filled.” We are blessed if we hunger and thirst after righteousness, because we are filled; we don’t hunger any longer as the world hungers because our satisfaction has been met in Christ. The righteous are those who maintain right relationships—with God and with the people around them. They will be satisfied in all aspects of the life. Those who feel that they are lost sinners and strongly desire to be holy shall be satisfied. Psalm 107:9 “ For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, And the hungry soul He has filled with what is good”
Lets Pray Lord , Help me to have strong desire and thirst for righteousness and submitting my life to you, please change me in and out … Amen !
