Today’s meditation is taken from Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
What exactly “MOURN” means?
Everyone has disappointments and sorrows in life and we continuously cry or mourn for something on the other but here Jesus used the word “mourn” is “penteo”, which is a strong word meaning to wail in lamenting over something. This mourning is one who is in great distress who is feeling deep sorrow or regret. this mourning is specifically saying about the godly sorrow in one's heart over sin.
What is to be mourned? Why?
Blessings or Happiness depends on what you are crying about. If I am crying about the sin in my life then I should be happy. Why? Because, I’m taking the sin in my life very seriously and even concerned about it. If I ignore the sin in my life then it takes control over me. But, if I mourn or cry about it that means I realize how much it affects me, my relationship with God, my relationship with others and I need to do something about it. I need to repent. We all should be mourned for our personal sin before a Holy God.1 Timothy 1:15 “This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners"--and I am the worst of them all.”question is “Are you mourning over your Sin?”
How can mourn will be comforted?
People think that how can mourn will be comforted? How can someone be happy when they are in mourning? How can someone be happy when they are crying? As Jesus promised He comforts those who mourn and give them His peace. Through the forgiveness of sins we enter into God’s peace. As long as we live in fellowship with God and confess our sins we remain in the peace of God. The Holy Spirit comforts the Christian in their daily walk with God. If we are not walking in the peace and comfort of God we need to examine our lives and see if sin and disobedience has been allowed to take root in our hearts. Finally God comforts us with the hope of eternity. John 14:1-3 says, “I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be with me where I am.”
Lets Pray, Lord, I’m mourning over sin in my life, please forgive me and give your comfort and Peace. Amen!
GOD BLESS YOU
