Daily Devotion : Learn to Forgive Others

Today’s mediation is taken from Matthew 18: 21-22 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?" Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times”.

One of the major problems in today’s world is “Forgiveness”. Its very big word to understand and practice. generally, If anyone hurt or by doing wrong against us, we easily get angry and grow bitter to that person , Imagine if God did the same thing for our sins committing on daily basis . many believers don’t have the heart of forgiveness , but scripture says we have to forgive others as Jesus did .

Jesus explained in this way. The parable of the unforgiving servant (Matthew 18:21-35). A king forgave his servant ,The king, out of compassion, kindness, and beautiful mercy forgave the entire debt, and not on the grounds of repayment either. The king knew this servant would never be able to repay the money owed, yet he forgave him anyway But here’s the servant’s response: straight away, this forgiven man found a coworker of his who owed him just a fraction of what he had been pardoned from repaying the king. He grabbed him by the throat, and demanded he be repaid the money owed him. When that man begged patience, just as the forgiven servant had, “he refused and…put him in prison”!

Today, we are standing on the same servant position, even though we as God’s forgiven, redeemed, and reconciled people but not able to forgive others those who do sin or wrong against us.

As Jesus commanded, it’s very important to forgive others but how many times? Jesus answered "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times”. God is forgiving us on daily basis for our countless sins and as a child of God its very important to walk in His path .  Many people say they will forgive, but they will not ever forget! The Scriptures tell us that not only does God remove our sins, but also he forgets them and he remembers them no longer. Forgiveness keeps no record of wrongs and does not hold a person’s sins over their head.

Yes, it’s hard to develop that attitude but by help of God and His Word, we can. “The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.”
