Today’s meditation is taken from Matthew 5:5 “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”
What is “MEEK” means?
According to the world, meekness is to be equated with weakness. The world views one who is timid, fearful, shy, or lacking in self-confidence as being meek. But, In the Greek New Testament, “meek” is from the Greek term praus. It does not suggest weakness; rather, it denotes strength brought under control. The ancient Greeks employed the term to describe a wild horse tamed to the bridle. Meekness is closely related to humility and is first and foremost a divine work of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
How to develop meekness? Why?
As a child of God, it’s very important to develop the meekness, without meekness we slide into an internal conflict of soul that manifests itself in anger, frustration, bitterness, resentment, and turmoil. Meekness tames the temper, subdues the self, calms the passions, and brings order out of chaos in the soul. Yes , its very hard to develop meekness but With God's power and grace we can . Meekness plays important role in our Christian life, we can develop this by receiving and meditating word of God (James 1:21; Psalm 25:9), Communicating with God, practicing the meekness daily and exhibiting God’s Character in our daily life. The meek person submits to God!
What does it mean that the meek will “inherit the earth”?
As Jesus promised, here is the blessing “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.” Yes, We can inherit the earth if we develop meekness. God is the owner of this earth. Those who obey Christ become children of God .The Father supplies all our needs, we therefore enjoy this earth and its blessings more than all others. However, our inheritance is spiritual. We are heirs in the kingdom of Christ and citizenship in that kingdom is available now on this earth. Finally, we also look for an inheritance that is reserved for us in heaven because we are aware that the earth will be destroyed when Christ returns.
Psalm 37:11 But the humble will inherit the land and will delight themselves in abundant prosperity.
Let’s Pray, Lord please help me to develop meekness in all circumstances in life … ! Amen!
GOD BLESS YOU
