Sanjay Gupta, hails
from a religious Vaishav Hindu family in Lucknow. According to a report in
JeevanMarg, Sanjay was involved in his family trade of money lending, but the
influx of money into his hands since a young age caused him to take up several
bad habits, and also took to selling drugs. Due to his habits, Sanjay was
shunned from all family gatherings as scuffles became commonplace. As his
parents were very religious, several rituals were performed, Sanjay was given
bracelets and amulets to wear, but they did no good. Sanjay says that at a time
when he was in the darkest phase of life, Jesus spoke to him. Sanjay was scared
at first, consulted a Hindu sage and later a Muslim religious leader who
specialized in casting out evil spirits. Sanjay says that he later realized
that the voice that spoke to him wasn’t evil, but was of the Lord Jesus Christ.
After experiencing the love of the Lord, Sanjay decided to follow Jesus,
although as a consequence, his family cut off all relations with him, and also
refused to give him his inheritance. Sanjay has dedicated his life to spread
