Today’s meditation is taken from Ephesians 5:1 “Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children.”
The world we are living today is full of imitators. Many people trying to imitate others (actors/actress/cricketer/
Knowingly or unknowing we are imitating something on the other in our daily life, but scripture says “Be imitators of God”, which means be like him in all aspects of the life, this applies to our lifestyle, in all our behaviors, every choice we make, the way we work, speak, treat others, in every area of your life you must aim to imitate the character and the attributes of God.
“Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect” Matt. 5:48 Jesus gave us the starting point for imitating God in the Sermon on the Mount.
Yes, it’s very hard to imitators of God when everything around us is sinful but God’s grace is enough for us and we can do better and better day by day .but how can we imitate God and in what matters?
Imitate God like children, Children who love their parents dress like them, eat like them, sleep like them, talk like them etc. they learn everything by imitating beloved parents .It’s the same case with us, as a believers we should imitate God in all our actions, words, spirit, values, love etc. we have to learn everything by imitating God so that we will live a holy life in this world.
Apostle Paul goes on to say imitate his Love, Holiness and Wisdom. We should imitate his love; can we understand God’s Love? If we want to become true disciple of Jesus Christ then we must learn to imitate God’s love and show that to others.
John 15:12-13 "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this that he lay down his life for his friends."
John 13:35 "By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
God expects us to holy in this world "Be holy, because I am holy." 1 peter 1:16. We need to imitate his holiness meaning “fruit of the spirit”
Gal. 5:22-25 "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control”
We must live by the Spirit, We ask for God’s strength through His powerful Holy Spirit. "Fill me with your Spirit. Fill me with the desire of your Spirit. Fill me with your holiness"
“Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children.” Understand his character and be like him, Love like him, Forgive like him, kind to one another like him. Amen!
